Time Evolution of Beam Current in the Recycler Ring
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the time evolution of the beam current in the Fermilab Recycler Ring due to abrupt physical processes (single coloumb scattering, nuclear scattering) that cause sudden loss of beam, and diffusive processes (multiple coloumb scattering, lattice dpendence, etc.) which cause emittance growth. This emittance growth combined with finite aperure of the beam pipe will lead to eventual loss of most beam. We develop a fitting technique to the time evolution of beam current to estimate emittance growth. Finally we compare the directly measured growth with the fitted value. Full Discharges In Fermilab’s Electron Cooler
Fermilab’s 4.3 MeV electron cooler is based on an electrostatic accelerator, which generates a DC electron beam in an energy recovery mode. Effective cooling of the antiprotons in the Recycler requires that the beam remains stable for hours. While short beam interruptions do not deteriorate the performance of the Recycler ring, the beam may provoke full discharges in the accelerator, which sign...
متن کاملLongitudinal Momentum Mining of Beam Particles in a Storage Ring
I describe a new scheme for selectively isolating high density low longitudinal emittance beam particles in a storage ring from the rest of the beam without emittance dilution. I discuss the general principle of the method, called longitudinal momentum mining, multiparticle beam dynamics simulations and results of beam experiments. Multi-particle beam dynamics simulations applied to the Fermila...
متن کاملTransverse Instability Digital Damper for the Recycler
Transverse beam instability of a coasting beam with a digital damper is examined. Threshold of instability is calculated in specific cases with Landau damping taken into account. The results are applied to the Fermilab Recycler Ring. Some improvement of existing RR damper is proposed.
متن کاملBeam Position Monitors for the Fermilab Recycler Ring
Fermilab’s new Recycler Ring will recover and cool “used” antiprotons at the end of a Tevatron store and also accumulate “new” antiprotons from the antiproton source. A wideband rf system based on barrier buckets will result in unbunched beam, grouped in one to three separate partitions throughout the ring. A new beam position monitor system will measure position of any one partition at a time,...
متن کاملWideband Rf System for the Fermilab Recycler Ring
A broadband RF system has been built for the new Fermilab Recycler Ring. It is designed to both bunch and capture beam during transfers and create multiple, moveable RF barrier buckets for azimuthal control of the stored antiproton beam. Beam will be bunched and captured using bursts of four RF cycles at 2.5 MHz. To maximize bucket area, the multiple barrier buckets will be generated by pairs o...
